There are also many issues arising about their prices and services, which pushed people to call them a scam or a pyramid-scheme.

What is Ambit Energy?
In 2006, long-time friends Jere Thompson, Jr. and Chris Chambless decided to create “the finest and most respected retail energy provider in America”, which came to be Ambit Energy.
Their goal in creating this company is to provide people with high-quality renewable energy, better services, and cheaper resources of gas and electricity.
For the past 13 years in their chosen industry, I find it quite impressive to see that Ambit Energy is still kicking and standing until now. They have been doing pretty well over the years with their market expanding into more than 17 states in the US.
In their website, they also mentioned that Ambit Energy is on the verge expanding its market coverage, including Japan and Canada.
Despite many issues and complaints arising against the company, Ambit Energy still managed to gain more than 250,000 members across the US. They were also able to achieve a $1 Billion revenue since they started and are trying to gain more in the coming days.
Ambit Energy also mentions on their website about an opportunity for their customers to be part of their business and enjoy a free energy access from the company. This opportunity includes referring other people to become Ambit Energy’s customers.
This is where the Multi-Level Marketing structure of the business takes place.

Aside from providing economical energy, Ambit Energy also revolves around direct-selling of their products and services through their contributors or Independent Consultants.
This marketing strategy encompasses that of a Multi-Level Marketing method, where customers are given the chance to become contributors and earn additional benefits through different ways including:

Even right from the start of being a consultant, you already are eligible for bonuses by signing-up a handful of customers who wanted to save money.
Why and how to save money?
You are able to save money with Ambit Energy’s “Free Energy” program. When you sign yourself up as your first customer and then sign-up many other people under you, you earn points or energy service discounts of up to 100%.
You will also earn a $100 bonus when you set up your own business website and signup two other customers. And when you are able to sign-up five more and so on, you earn an additional $100 bonus all the way up to $400.
2. Team Bonus
Out of your referred people, you earn additional bonus when you also make them into a consultant and help them set up their own business and websites. A $100 bonus will be credited to you when they too are able to recruit a number of people that meet the requirement for bonuses.
3. Leadership and Promotion
Aside from the bonuses you earn when recruiting more customers and producing more consultants, you also get the chance to become promoted in different leadership levels. And every time you become promoted, the level of benefits and bonuses you receive increases. You will get the chance to receive additional bonus from unlimited levels starting from $55 up to $240 on top of the $100 bonus per level.
4. Residual Income
Ambit also guarantees their consultants residual income from their referrals and sponsored consultants. Additional bonuses go straight to the consultant’s account every month from their customers’ income and to their customers’ customer, until the 7th level of organization.

One of the products of Ambit Energy is Solar Energy. In partnership with the leading solar energy provider Sunrun, the company provides a more flexible option for their environmentally-conscious customers.
However, their solar energy service is only available to only 6 out of the 17 states in America.
Green Energy
Ambit Energy greatly promotes their green energy service. With a great reverence to the environment and customers, the company has been focusing on renewable energy sources in order to help reduce the consequences of climate change.
However, unlike the other products they provide, green energy is only limited to some areas in the America, therefore limiting their customers options and distributors’ income potential.

I can’t provide you with their product prices since they vary according to location, but I can give you information about some cost you will expect when joining Ambit Energy.

It’s a good thing that they reduced their rate from the expensive $429 to the cheaper $75 membership fee. They are now quite popular to consumers because of their more economical rates.
Complaints About Ambit Energy
Whether big or small, no company has ever been perfect and complaint-free. Let’s look at some of these complaints filed against the company:
Over the course of the business, they already had over a hundred complaints received. But, I noticed that in every complaint filed against them, they always make effort to answer all of them. This is a good point about the company.
What I Like About Ambit Energy
Good points that Ambit Energy has include:
- Cheaper membership rate. Their effort in reducing the membership rate is quite a good point on both the company and the consumers’ side. Though I still cannot compare how their product rates differ from other service providers because they vary per location and are not detailed out on their sales page.
- They put focus on preserving the environment thus providing their consumers renewable and green energy.
- They are a well-established company for more than 2 decades already.
- Their products (energy and electricity) are a necessity in human life so there are great opportunities and income potential for every consultant in the company.
- All complaints have been answered by the company.
- They are BBB Accredited with an A+ Rating.
What I Don’t Like
- Availability of their services is limited to 17 states of America, Japan and Canada.
- There is not much of training given.
- No transparent income disclosure.
- Income potential is slow and limited to the available locations.
- There are many complaints filed against the company.
- Focuses more on recruiting.
- There is a huge number of competitions because of its limited availability.
Is Ambit Energy a Scam?
Despite of all the claims of people referring Ambit Energy as a pyramid scheme and a scam, I can still say that the company is not a scam.
It is a long-established company was even recognized as the fastest-growing company that rose to a billion dollar revenue over the years.
But, I cannot say that it is for everyone.
Yes, I can recommend it to those who are living in the US and other places from which the company caters. If you want to cut some cost on your electricity bills and at the same time, earn a little extra, then this is for you.
And no, I cannot recommend it to people who wanted to have a livable income without engaging themselves in an MLM company.
